TV Advertising Jingle: TV not needed | Social Media Consultants ...

Last week I was asked where I thought the TV advertising jingle was going. It made me think of the fax machine.

No. Really.

In 1966 Xerox came out with the Telecopier. Plugged into a standard phone line, it took about six minutes to fax a single page. It was the future of fax.

Except it wasn?t. The technology had been around since the 1840s. In fact, Napoleon saw a lot of potential in sending images through a telegraph wire.

In the early 70s, fax was the future. The future, though, had long since been in existence. It?s the same with the TV jingle. The future is already here, we just need to see it, recognize it and use it.

The future of the TV jingle already looks like this:

1. Not on TV- ?Citizen Soldiers was a song and video produced by the band, 3 Doors Down in 2007 in conjunction with the National Guard. It was well written and produced and made it on Billboard?s Top 100. At 3 minutes 35 seconds, it never was intended to be seen on TV. You better believe it?s on Youtube.

2. Irrelevance- ?TV jingles are irrelevant to the product sold. Not only is this good, it?s brilliant. Seriously. Amazon hit the nail on the head with the Little and Ashley song campaign for Kindle. The songs had nothing to do with ereaders. They were independent enough to stand on their own. I own Little and Ashley?s EP with the Amazon songs. They?re good enough to have on my Ipad, but you can bet I remember Amazon when they come up on the playlist.

The jingle is a lost art. Its future, present and past is independent, professionally written, produced and performed songs built ?to stand on their own and distributed online.
