Fluorescent vs. L.E.D. Lighting - The Home Improvement Source

Fluorescent vs. L.E.D.

Although L.E.D. lighting was developed fairly recently, the benefits compared to fluorescent lighting are interesting. For our purposes we will examine L.E.D. as an alternative to fluorescent lighting in kitchen and bathrooms:

Perhaps the greatest advantage of L.E.D. lighting lies in their energy efficiency. L.E.D. lights use substantially less wattage than traditional fluorescent lighting. This efficient processing of energy also allows for a low level of heat output, in turn reducing your air conditioning bill!

For many people, L.E.D. lighting is much softer and easier on the eyes. This is due to its full production of the light spectrum and come in either ?cool? white light or ?warm? light depending on taste.

L.E.D. lights last up to 10 times longer than fluorescent lights. Not only will save on energy costs, but also on the bulbs. The initial investment of an L.E.D. bulb is expensive, but the returns are certainly worth it. They also contain no mercury like fluorescent lights making them easier on the environment. And since they do not have filament inside the bulb they are much more durable than the standard bulbs.

Ask your contractor what options are available for L.E.D. lighting, some screw right in to the light fixtures you have currently!
